letters to our daughters: november ’13

My sweet Lily,

Something has changed in you in the past month or so, little one. I’ve wanted to stop you from growing up since the day you were born, but now, I feel that desire even more. You’ve become such a little lady, and it seems like it’s happened overnight.

Just last weekend, we went to a nice restaurant for Aunt A’s birthday. We were there for over 2 hours, and you were perfect the whole time. I didn’t expect you to be bad, but I did figure you’d be ready to go after an hour and a half or so. You’re amazing, girl! But the real shocker was when you announced to Dada and I that you didn’t want to come home with us, but instead you wanted to go home with Aunt A. That brought me nothing but happiness, because I know how much Aunt A loves you, and how she treasures each moment she gets to spend with you. I know how happy that made her, and I know how much fun the two of you have together. Did I want you home with us? I always do, but I want you to grow with other people, so I’m happy when you’re happy.

I’d keep you little if I could, but since you have to grow up, I’m so happy seeing the 4 year old girl you’ve become. You’ve changed my life, Lily, making me such a better person inside. I can only hope that I’m making you a good person inside, too.

These are gorgeous! I hate that they grow up so fast as well. It seems like it goes by in the blink of an eye.
